Professor Fabian Ajogwu, SAN, to Unveil New Corporate Governance Model at Lagos Business School Public Lecture

Corporate governance expert, Professor Fabian Ajogwu, OFR, SAN, is set to unveil a practical corporate governance model at his upcoming public lecture scheduled for March 20, 2025, at the Lagos Business School.

The lecture, titled “Balancing Power, Profit and Purpose”, will introduce a new governance equation and framework developed through 25 years of research, teaching, and practical experience in corporate governance, law, and sustainability. It aims at reimagining governance with a focus on Ethics, Purpose, and Outcomes for a Sustainable Future.

The new governance model, known as the AFG Model, integrates ethics, behavioural governance, conscious capitalism, purpose-driven leadership, and outcomes-based corporate governance to establish more sustainable governance systems. It also tackles critical issues such as the role of the rule of law and the impact of corruption on governance outcomes.

Speaking on the upcoming lecture, Professor Ajogwu (SAN) remarked, “Governance is not just about rules; it is about ethics, purpose, and outcomes. The AFG Model is designed to help organisations and societies rethink governance in a way that balances business objectives with ethical and sustainable impact. Companies can no longer view corporate governance merely as a compliance requirement but as an essential component of their businesses. Therefore, the new model advocates for a shift from a box-ticking approach to governance towards a more integrated and forward-thinking system.”

In addition to the lecture, the event will feature an interactive session with industry leaders, policymakers, and academics, followed by the unveiling of Professor Ajogwu’s latest book, Reflections on Corporate Governance. The book delves into the evolution of governance practices and offers insights on addressing modern governance challenges.

The Programme Coordinator for The Governance Platform (TGP), an online community of professionals interested in elevating the quality of discourse on governance and supporter of the lecture, Abasiemediong Etuk noted: “This lecture is for anyone interested in advancing governance practices in the 21st century. The works of the Learned Silk, Professor Ajogwu, continue to shape governance discourse in Nigeria and beyond, and we invite like minds to join us as we reimagine the corporate governance landscape.”

The event is open to business leaders, board members, policymakers, and governance professionals.
